Review
of POOR PHIL'S SHELL BAR:
Brought to you by: Digital
City Chicago
The casual little bro’ of grander Philander's, Poor Phil's
is an easygoing eatery heavy on seafood and pub fare. If weather allows, the
outdoor cafe offers a fine view of passers-by, but indoors or out, expect
complimentary popcorn to kindle the taste buds for a massive array of fresh
oysters. Salads, like an above average chicken or shrimp Caesar, a wickedly
wonderful Cobb and a lobster salad, are full of downtown finesse. Some of the
tempting entrees include juicy burgers, steamed mussels, grilled chicken,
scallop pasta, crab legs, soft shell crab (in season) and fish and chips. The
grilled fish of the day may be mahi-mahi, marlin, swordfish, ahi tuna or
whatever’s the freshest. Top it off with key lime pie, cheesecake or sinful
sundaes made with Oak Park’s own Petersen’s ice cream. -– Jacky Runice
